"How much is this going to cost?" is the first question every homeowner asks when a garage door fails, and most repair companies dodge it. We won't. Below are honest cost ranges for the repairs we work on most often, what drives the price up or down, and where we'll give the customer an honest evaluation on the repair or replacement. Every job gets a firm written estimate before we begin working.

  • Flat diagnostic fee, credited toward the repair
  • Firm written estimate before we start
  • No upsell, no scare tactics
  • 1-year labor warranty + manufacturer parts warranty

Cost ranges by repair type

Ranges below are for standard residential doors across our Central Coast service area. Every quote is site-specific and delivered in writing.

Broken torsion or extension spring
Low-to-mid hundreds installed
Single spring on a light door costs less than a spring on a heavy insulated two-car garage door. We replace springs in matched pairs on double doors so cycle life stays balanced.
Cable replacement (snapped or frayed)
Low hundreds installed
Often the least expensive single repair to your garage door. If cables are damaged, drums and bearings are usually close behind. A diagnosis catches this up front.
Roller & hinge refresh
Low hundreds installed
Quiet, smooth door for a modest cost. On coastal homes we spec stainless or galvanized to survive salt air - small premium, huge lifespan gain.
Garage door opener replacement
High hundreds to low thousands
Chain and belt drive residential openers with battery back-up and MyQ technology. Prices vary by horsepower and door height.
Panel replacement
A few hundred and up per panel
Depends on whether the door is still in production. Two or more damaged panels on an older door often makes full replacement the smarter spend.
Off-track door repair
Low-to-mid hundreds
If panels and tracks aren't bent, this may be an easy repair. Bent tracks or creased panels increase the price. We'll show you exactly what it'll take to repair your door before starting the work.
Weather seal & bottom seal replacement
Low hundreds
Restores the seal against wind, rain, dust, and rodents. Frequently paired with a maintenance visit for a better overall value.

What drives repair price up or down

  • Door weight and size. Insulated double-car doors need heavier springs, cables, and hardware than a single-layer single-car door.
  • Coastal vs Inland. Salt-air homes on the Monterey Peninsula need stainless or hot-dip galvanized hardware. It costs a bit more up front and pays back many times over in lifespan.
  • Age and brand of existing door. Obsolete parts on a 25-year-old door take longer to source and sometimes force a replacement panel-set rather than a spot repair.
  • What else is failing. If the spring snapped and the opener is 18 years old, we'll price both options - repair only, or repair plus opener - so you can decide.
  • After-hours vs standard. True emergency calls (door stuck open, car trapped, break-in) after standard hours run higher. Same-day during business hours is our default and is priced accordingly.

Repair or replace? The honest math.

We fix doors for a living, and we will encourage customers to replace when a repair doesn't pencil out. A well-built door under 15 years old with a broken spring or worn opener is almost always worth repairing. A door past 20 years with multiple bent panels, rusted bottom rail, or single-layer coastal steel that's no longer sealing is usually cheaper to replace - once you factor in energy loss, sealing, and no more surprise repair calls.

On the consultation we'll lay both options side by side - repair cost with expected remaining life, or replacement cost with warranty and insulation gains. Your call, no pressure.

Why our pricing is different

We've been the local family owned and operated garage and overhead door company on the Central Coast since 1996, based in Hollister, working across San Benito, Monterey, Santa Cruz, and southern Santa Clara counties. This means no franchise overhead built into the ticket, no commissioned sales technicians, and no incentive to replace parts that don't need replacing. You get a real technician, a written estimate, and the price we quoted - not the price after "found more damage" showed up on the invoice.

Garage door repair cost - frequently asked questions

How much does a broken garage door spring cost to replace?

For a typical residential door, spring replacement usually lands in the low-to-mid hundreds of dollars installed, depending on whether it's a single or matched pair of torsion springs, the door weight, and the spring wire gauge. On a two-car insulated steel door we always replace torsion springs in matched pairs so cycle life stays balanced - a single-spring 'fix' is a false economy.

How much are new garage door cables?

Cable replacement is typically among the least-expensive repairs - usually a couple hundred dollars installed - because the part cost is low. The catch: a cable rarely snaps in isolation. If cables are damaged, the springs, drums, or bearings are usually next in line, and we'll flag that in the written estimate before starting.

What does replacing worn rollers and hinges cost?

A full set of nylon rollers and refreshed hinges on a standard residential door is generally a low-hundreds job. On coastal Central Coast homes we upgrade to stainless or galvanized to survive salt air - a small cost premium that dramatically extends service life.

How much does a new garage door opener cost installed?

A LiftMaster belt-drive residential opener with battery backup and MyQ - which is what we install on our own homes - typically runs in the high-hundreds to low-thousands installed, depending on horsepower, rail length, and whether existing wiring can be reused. We include the walkthrough, remote pairing, and force/safety-eye setup in the price.

How much to fix a bent or damaged panel?

It depends on whether the door is still in production and how many panels are affected. A single replacement panel on a common in-stock door is usually a few hundred dollars in parts plus install. Two or more panels on an older door often makes replacement the smarter spend - we'll show you the math honestly, not push the higher ticket.

What does an off-track garage door repair cost?

Most off-track doors are a low-to-mid-hundreds fix if the panels and track weren't bent when the door came off. If a panel is creased or the track is warped, parts costs go up. Either way, you get a firm written price before we start - we do not begin work off a phone estimate.

Do you charge a service-call fee?

Yes - a flat diagnostic fee that's credited back toward the repair if you proceed with the work. That covers travel, diagnosis, safety inspection, and the written estimate. If you decide not to repair, you owe only the diagnostic fee - no upsell.

Is it cheaper to repair or replace an old garage door?

A straight, well-built door under 15 years old is almost always cheaper to repair - even after springs, cables, rollers, and a new opener. A door past 20 years old with multiple bent panels, rusted-through bottom rail, or single-layer coastal steel that no longer seals is usually cheaper to replace in the long run, once you factor in insulation, sealing, and no more surprise repair calls.

Had a problem with our opener rail and another broken hinge. Great service with nice workmen who serviced the whole door too. Very happy.
